A group of Americans, some of them of Ukrainian origin and living in the States, launched a site http://digitalmaidan.com/ to encourage users to tweet about Ukrainian protests to US politicians and world media.
Terrell Jermaine Starr, editor of NewsOne writes:
“Feeling snubbed by mainstream media’s lack of coverage on #Euromaidan and devotion to #FreeJustinBieber, a small band of Ukrainians here in the U.S. decided storming Twitter would be as effective as footage of protesters storming government buildings to raise awareness”.
The information about Twitter storm has been disseminated in both the US and Ukraine.
Star writes: “Andrea Chalupa, her “tech genius” friend Lara Chelak, and Andrea’s sister Ali were convinced that the world wasn’t paying enough attention to what is happening with the #Euromaidan protests in Ukraine. So, in less than 48 hours, they were able to engineer #digitalmaidan, a campaign that successfully got thousands of people to tweet about the human rights crisis.
At 10 a.m. sharp on Monday, thousands of people flash-mobbed Twitter to tell the Twitterverse that they need to pay attention to the fight for freedom in Ukraine.”
Almost 55,000 tweets per hour were sent today in the morning.
